Rick Warren Returns to Pulpit after Son's Suicide

Megachurch Pastor Rick Warren returned to the pulpit this weekend nearly four months after his son's suicide.

Warren and his wife, Kay, were greeted Saturday with a long standing ovation at Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, Calif.

He delivered a sermon called, "How to get through what you're going through," and often broke off to talk frankly about his son.

In April, Warren's 27-year-old son Matthew took his own life after a battle with mental illness.

At times during his sermon, Warren choked back tears and thanked the congregation for their love, support, and prayers.

"In the middle of four months, 16 weeks, a third of this year, in the middle of all that intense pain, Kay and I have felt the favor of God because of your prayers and we intend to spend the rest of our lives comforting others with the comfort that we ourselves have been given my God," Warren said.

Pastor Warren posted on his Facebook page that this was the longest he had ever gone without preaching.
