Arkansas Gov. Mike Beebe signed into law a bill protecting the rights of mothers who are forced to defend the lives of their unborn children.
The measure, called the "Pregnant Woman's Protection Act," passed both the state House and Senate unanimously.
The Group Americans United for Life is behind the new legislation. A spokesperson says it was drafted in response to the growing problem of pregnancy-related violence against women.
Studies show a pregnant woman is more likely to be a victim of homicide than to die of any other cause.
