Three Marines, including a woman and two men, are dead after a shooting at the Marine Corpes Base in Quantico, Va. The suspect is among the casualties.

Col. David W. Maxwell., the base commander, said the shooting began at around 10:30 p.m. in the Taylor Hall barracks.

After killing a male Marine, the shooter then captured and killed a female Marine. The suspect was later found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Authorities believe all three were staff members at the officer candidate school on base.

"This is truly a tragic loss for the Marine Corps, which has had a number of tragic losses in the last couple of weeks," Maxwell said.

Maxwell denied earlier reports of a standoff, adding that an investigation is underway.

"We are making sure we are taking care of our Marines and their families as they deal with this tragedy," Maxwell said. "All the details are under investigation."
