Virginia voters will have to show a photo ID when they vote in the 2014 elections.

Gov. Bob McDonnell signed the bill into law Tuesday, saying it will guard against voter fraud.

State Sen. Mark D. Obenshain, R-Harrisonburg, who sponsored the legislation, called the move a victory.

"If we believe that our system of free and fair elections is important, then we need the process to be secure - and just as importantly, we need to instill confidence in the results," The Richmond Times-Dispatch quoted Obenshain.

Democrats say Republicans are trying to keep the elderly, minorities, and the poor from voting.
