Hard Road Ahead: Tornado Damage in the Billions

Ad Feedback

The first funeral in the aftermath of the massive tornado that struck Moore, Okla., took place Thursday. Nine-year-old Antonia Candelaria was laid to rest.

She's one of seven children killed when the storm struck Plaza Towers Elementary School.

Meanwhile, the first damage estimates from the tornado are coming in. The Oklahoma Insurance Department estimates costs could top $2 billion.

The storm was on the ground for about 40 minutes and struck up to 13,000 homes.

The National Weather Service says the Moore tornado was an extremely rare EF5 with winds over 200 miles an hour. Only one or two percent of tornadoes reach that size.

Candelaria's funeral is the first of three scheduled over the next two days for children who drowned at Plaza Towers.

Twenty-four people were killed, including 10 children.
