New Orleans police have identified Akein Scott as the alleged gunman in Sunday's Mother's Day parade shooting in the Big Easy.
"We would like to remind the community and Akein Scott that the time has come for him to turn himself in," Police Superintendent Ronal Serpas said of Scott, describing him as "no stranger to the criminal justice system."
Officers say Scott, 19, can be seen in grainy surveillance video. The footage shows a crowd scattering after a man in a white T-shirt and dark trousers starts shooting and then runs out of the camera's view.
"I saw the guy on the corner, his arm extended, firing into the crowd," said medical student Jarrat Pytell, who witnessed the shooting.
"He was obviously pointing in a specific direction; he wasn't swinging the gun wildly," he said.
At least 19 people were injured in the shooting incident, but no deaths have been reported.
