Tenn. Valley Utility Closes Eight Coal Units

Ad Feedback

The nation's largest public utility is closing down eight coal units at power plants in Kentucky and Alabama.

The Tennessee Valley Authority says the closings are necessary because power demand is down and environmental regulations are becoming stricter.

The Kentucky units will be replaced by a natural gas plant, but more than 200 jobs will be affected.

The company could close more coal facilities over the next few years.
