Many are mourning the loss of one of the kings of the American thriller. Author Tom Clancy died Tuesday in Baltimore.
Clancy was selling insurance in Baltimore when he wrote his first novel about a Soviet sub commander defecting to the West.
He later became known for books like The Hunt for Red October
, Patriot Games,
and Clear and Present Danger
Clancy's 25 novels included more than a dozen No. 1 best sellers. Many of those best sellers turned into blockbuster films.
There was such realism and attention to detail in his books, a military official once suspected the author of having access to classified material.
Clancy was 66.
