SBC Chaplains Banned from Performing Gay Nuptials

The Southern Baptist Convention has barred its members from performing same-sex marriages, taking part in counseling sessions, or attending same-sex couples retreats.

The SBC, which provides the largest share of military chaplains, made the decision following the Department of Defense's recognition of same-sex marriage.

The Pentagon said last month same-sex spouses of troops will be eligible for the same healthcare, housing and other benefits as heterosexual spouses.

The policy went into effect last week.
