Pa. Stabbing Suspect ID'd as 16-Year-Old Student

A Pennsylvania community is in shock Wednesday after a 16-year-old male student armed with two knives went on a stabbing spree at a high school near Pittsburgh. Twenty people wounded.
    
Eye witnesses described the scene at Franklin Regional High School as chaotic, with the hallways full of students trying to evacuate.

"I just talked to my friend who said he just saw him running with a knife and saying then he turned the corner and there's some kids holding their stomach with blood everywhere," one student recalled. "The whole science wing was just chaotic and crazy."

Police say the attack started at 7 a.m. The suspect, who authorities didn't name, entered the school with two knives and started stabbing and slashing people in the hallways. 

One student, who blocked the attacker with his arm to save two of his friends, is being hailed as a hero. Eyewitnesses say he also pulled the fire alarm to alert other students and get them out of the building.

The suspect was then stopped by the assistant principal and a security guard, who tackled him to the ground.

"The fire alarm being pulled probably assisted with the evacuation of the school and that was a good thing that that was done," Murrysville police Chief Thomas Seefeld said.
  
Doctors at a nearby hospital say some victims suffered multiple stab wounds, and two are in critical but stable condition. Are all expected to survive.

"They were all knife wounds, most to the lower abdomen, and they seem to actually have a pattern to the right lower abdomen, go to the right flank," Dr. Mark Rubino, of Forbes Regional Medical Center, described the injuries.

The teen suspect has been taken into custody. Meanwhile, investigators are still trying to find out what triggered the attack.
