Friends Give Cancer Patient Unforgettable Prom Night

Prom night is often something high schoolers look forward to for years, which is why some students at a Texas school surprised a very deserving classmate.

Fifteen-year-old Kennedy Brown has been battling brain cancer for the last couple years.

Her condition is getting worse, so her best friends put together a plan to give her a prom night she'd never forget.

"We realized we need to do this for her so that she can get this experience that were all going to get," event organizer Betsy Goodfriend said.

"I serenaded her. I wrote the song I sang to her (to) ask her out to prom," another friend, Alex Carranza, said.

Students dressed up and danced. By the end of the night, they awarded Kennedy the prom queen title.

"It was nice to see her smile after all she had been through," Goodfriend said.

They even held a special graduation ceremony where Principal Ramon Moss gave her an honorary degree.

The mascot of one of her favorite teams, the Houston Rockets, also made an appearance at the party.

"It may have been the last time I see her, so just to see her then made me really happy," classmate Lyric Baldridge said.
