The U.S. Postal Service is looking to get into the business of gathering and selling personal information the way Internet companies Facebook and Google do.

The Daily Caller reported that a postal service executive recently spoke out about the possibility. They said the post office can pick up information about customer behavior.

They can monitor what types of businesses people get mail from and sell that information to advertisers and retailers. And they can use traditional mail to target consumers.

Chief Marketing and Sales Officer Nagisa Manabe recently said the marketing opportunity is too big for the Postal Service to pass up.

"As we know more and more about how consumers are traveling around and making their decisions, it behooves us to get involved and actually send them information to actually close the deal," Manabe said. "For me, it's all about speed and accuracy of the mail."
