The White House is taking on the issue of sexual assault on college campuses, offering some suggestions to reduce violence.

The administration released a 20-page report this week addressing the problem and giving some recommendations. The report says:

  • Colleges need to know what's happening on campus by surveying student awareness of the issue
  • Schools should promote "bystander intervention" where witnesses will step in to help
  • Trained victim advocates should be available to provide support.

"Colleges and universities can no longer turn a blind eye or pretend rape and sexual assault doesn't occur on their campuses," Vice President Joe Biden said.

The administration has created a task force, working to end what they call a "violent campus culture."

According to the report, the government will make enforcement data and other information about sexual assault available on NotAlone.gov.
