A severe weather system is moving from the central U.S. to the East Friday, bringing hailstorms, dangerous winds and the threat of tornadoes.

Meanwhile out West, wintry weather continues to hold spring at bay.

A hefty storm is expected to dump six to 14 inches of snow Friday in parts of Minnesota. And in Colorado, several ski areas are extending their seasons thanks to an unusually snowy spring.

Overnight, those storms rolled through parts of the Midwest and South.

In the Lone Star State, hailstorms lasted for hours, shattering windshields and sending many Texans running for cover.

"I was telling people I don't know what to do with the glass. I've never been in this situation," one resident said.

In St. Louis, more than a hundred homes were damaged after an EF-1 tornado touched down, causing the governor of Missouri to declare a state of emergency.

Meanwhile in Kansas and Indiana, flash flooding had emergency crews rescuing drivers from submerged vehicles.

Friday's storms are expected to weaken as they reach the East Coast, but thunderstorms are possible from Washington, D.C., to Boston.
