Federal investigators are connecting the massive Sony cyber hack to North Korea, saying the situation may be the most damaging cyberattack ever inflicted on an American business.

The hack and threat prompted Sony to cancel the Christmas Day release of the North Korean spoof movie "The Interview."

The film is about a celebrity journalist and his producer who land an interview with Kim Jong Un and are instructed by the CIA to assassinate him.

The comedy had been predicted to gross around $30 million in its opening weekend.

Federal officials believe a North Korean cyber security unit called Bureau 121 is responsible. But they are considering the possibility that someone inside Sony assisted with the hack.
