California activists pushing to split the Golden State into six individual states got the green light from the state secretary.

Starting this week, they have approval from the state to begin collecting signatures for a possible ballot initiative.

The man behind the push is Tim Draper, a venture capitalist who says California has become so big it's unmanageable, and the state just isn't working the way it's currently setup.

His goal is to bring the government closer to the people.

The six states outlined in the measure are Jefferson, North California, Silicon Valley, West California, Central California, and South California.

Draper and his supporters have until mid-July to collect more than 800,000 signatures to qualify for the November ballot.
