The federal government will recognize all of the same sex-marriages performed in Utah.

In December a judge overturned the state's ban on gay marriage, sending more than 1,000 same-sex couples to get marriage licenses.

But on Monday the Supreme Court ordered a stay on gay weddings while the state appeals the ban being overturned.

On Friday, Attorney General Eric Holder said the federal government will recognize all the weddings that took place. He said the marriage status of gay couples in Utah shouldn't be uncertain during the court battle.
