March for Life Goes On Despite Winter Storm

March for Life organizers say the Jan. 22 event will go on as scheduled despite the winter storm pounding the nation's capital.

The theme of this year's march is adoption.

"Adoption is a heroic decision for pregnant mothers who find themselves in a difficult situation," March for Life President Jeanne Monahan said in a statement. "We want to eliminate the stigma of adoption and encourage women to pursue this noble option."

***Pro-life advocate Lila Rose, president of Live Action, talked more about the state of the movement on CBN Newswatch, Jan. 21.

Pro-life lawmakers are also making a concerted effort to be part the annual event.

The Republican National Convention has delayed its annual winter meeting, originally scheduled for Jan. 22, so members of Congress can join the annual March for Life against abortion. The events fall on the same date.

Although Congress won't be in session when the march takes place, members of the House have delivered speeches marking the 41st anniversary of the Supreme Court's Roe v. Wade decision. That decision was made Jan. 22, 1973.

Many of those giving speeches quoted the Bible, and others plan to join constituents at the March for Life Wednesday at the Washington Mall.

The unprecedented decision has not gone unnoticed by prominent members of the pro-life movement. Troy Newman, with Operation Rescue, along with Project Wildfire's Cary Bogue, have joined together to show support for the meeting's delay.

"Our annual March for Life is a big deal for the pro-life movement," Newman said. "The fact that the GOP is delaying its meeting to join with us to fight for the lives of the unborn, not only deserves our gratitude but our support as well."
