Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon has signed legislation protecting the religious rights of students in public schools.

The new law prohibits students from being discriminated against for expressing their religious viewpoints in homework, artwork, and other class assignments.

Under the new rules students must only be graded according to academic standards.

The measure also allows students to pray while at school and wear clothing and jewelry displaying religious messages.

Another part of the bill says that student religious groups shall be given the same access to using school facilities as other kinds of non-curricular groups.
