A Christian outreach to children in Portland, Oregon, is encountering opposition.

The Child Evangelism Fellowship is hosting evangelism and discipleship camps throughout the city this week for children between the ages of 5 and 12.

But opponents took out a full-page newspaper ad to protest the outreach, saying the group presents a fundamentalist view of Christianity that should be rejected.

"They pretend to be a mainstream Christian Bible study when in fact they're a very old school fundamentalist sect," the Huffington Post quoted Kaye Schmitt, an organizer with Protect Portland Children.

CEF Vice President Moises Esteves said the opposition is part of an atheist plan to dismantle Christian outreach.

"Children are easy to manipulate -- we all know that," Esteves said. "We don't use any of the schemes and high-pressure tactics that we're accused of. Nothing could be further from the truth."

A 2012 Gallup poll indicates Oregon is among the least religious states in the country.
