A federal investigation into sexual assaults on college campuses poses a disturbing question: Are authorities doing enough to investigate such claims?

A new report from the Department of Education cites 55 colleges and universities that could be facing investigation for their handling of sexual assault incidents on campus.

Among them are Harvard, Michigan, Ohio State, Southern Methodist, and University of California-Berkley.

The report cites incidents of sexual harrassment by professors and assaults by fellow students, with little or no follow-up. It's part of a White House effort to raise awareness of sexual assault on college campuses.

Citing statistical data, the White House says one in five women will be sexually assaulted before graduation.

"We have to do everything we can to protect them. These are our children," Vice President Joe Biden said.
