The Sonrise Music Festival was held this past weekend, May 9-11 in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Top Christian musical guests, speakers, comedians and athletes teamed up to bring Christian entertainment to the beach.

Popular bands Switchfoot and Sonicflood headlined the event, along with solo artists Francesca Battistelli and Chris August. Several others from the Christian entertainment industry also performed.

Aside from musical performances, the festival featured a skate board demo hosted by Mike Steinkamp Ministries and Mekos Skate Park Church from Virginia Beach.

Trina Olson, founder of Sonrise Festival, said she felt called to create the festival as a mission to share the gospel to people who were local or vacationing.

"The reason why my heart was at the beach was (because) at the 50th anniversary for CBN, Dr. Pat Robertson was referencing the First Colony Cross right here at Cape Henry Shores. I thought, 'That's it Lord,  that's where you want to have a big huge music festival. To celebrate him, the Lord Jesus Christ,'" she said.

CBN was a leading sponsors of Sonrise, with giveaway prizes from the children's animated series "Superbook," Orphans Promise, CBN Radio and Praise.com.

More than 5,000 people attended throughout the weekend, ending with a sunrise Mother's Day service.

Festival proceeds will benefit the homeless organization Loving and Caring Homeless Shelter. To learn about next year's festival, visit www.SonriseFestival.com.
