Two States Face Legal Confusion over Gay Marriage

Idaho and Arkansas are working to untangle confusing rulings on gay marriage, Friday.

Arkansas Circuit Judge Chris Piazza expanded his ruling from last week that struck down a voter-approved ban on gay marriage. His expanding ruling now blocks clerks from issuing gay marriage licenses.

Meanwhile in Idaho, the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals issued a stay on Judge Candy Dale's ruling that struck down the state's gay marriage ban.

Though news of the stay upset the lesbian couples who filed suit against the state, their lawyer said he was hopeful by the move.

"If the 9th Circuit wanted to go ahead and stay the matter, it could have granted that outright. And instead it has decided to take more time and give a good hard look to the state," Deborah Ferguson, the plaintiff's attorney, said.

The decision gives the 9th Circuit Court more time to review the request.
