Christian band Casting Crowns nabbed the Contemporary Inspirational Artist of the Year at the 2014 American Music Awards Sunday night.

Crowds gathered at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles for the annual event. Hillsong United, the Newsboys, and Casting Crowns were all nominees for the inspirational award.

All three groups had record breaking years, but in the end it was Casting Crowns who took home the award.

Their album reached No. 1 on the Billboard Contemporary Christian Albums chart and No. 6 on the Billboard Top 200 chart.

The band is currently on tour through the holiday season and will perform at New York's famed Carnegie Hall on Jan. 24, 2015 as part of a full weekend with fans.

Several acts performed on stage including Selena Gomez, who gave an emotional performance of her new single, "The Heart Wants What it Wants."

At one point during the performance she paused, saying "Thank you, Jesus."
