The weather is ugly across much of the country Tuesday, with forecasters calling the Great Lakes a snow magnet.

Parts of New York and Ontario are bracing for more than two feet of snow through Wednesday afternoon.

The National Weather Service says the Lake Michigan shoreline could get up to 16 inches. And up to 18 inches of snow could fall along Lake Superior.

Meanwhile, nearly half the country is already covered in snow.

Residents are shoveling out across the frozen Midwest, while road crews work around the clock to clear roads.

At least 11 people have been killed in car accidents from Minnesota to Texas.

The South saw an outbreak of severe weather well, but not snow. An EF1 tornado with winds of 105 miles struck near Macon, Georgia.
