One Military Under God? Faith Freedom Under Attack
A series of recent cases indicate that religious freedom is under attack in America's Armed Forces.
On Wednesday, the Air Force announced it will no longer require airmen to say the words "So help me God" when taking the enlistment oath.
Air Force officials say the change comes after an airman struck out the words on his re-enlistment paperwork.
"We take any instance in which Airmen report concerns regarding religious freedom seriously," Secretary of the Air Force Deborah Lee James said in a statement.
Also this year, an Air Force Academy cadet was forced to remove a Bible verse from his personal whiteboard.
In another case, the Navy removed Gideon's Bibles from guest lodges but then returned them later, saying the decision was made without consulting senior leadership.
And last year, the Pentagon warned soldiers they could be prosecuted for sharing their faith.
