The Obama administration is renaming Mount McKinley, in a nod to native Alaskans before his trip there this week.

The Interior Department said they're renaming it Mount Denali, a native Athabascan word that means "the high one."

North America's tallest mountain peak is currently named after President William McKinley. The Ohio resident was America's 25th president who was assassinated early in his second term.

The move to strip McKinley's name drew loud condemnations from Ohio lawmakers, including House Speaker John Boehner, who said he was "deeply disappointed" in the decision.

"This political stunt is insulting to all Ohioans, and I will be working with the House Committee on Natural Resources to determine what can be done to prevent this action," Rep. Bob Gibbs, R-Ohio, added.

The gesture to rename the mountain comes as President Barack Obama heads to Anchorage Monday for a three-day trip to Alaska.

His visit will be carefully choreographed to call attention to the ways Obama claims climate change is damaging America.
