An astonishing gift dropped in a Salvation Army red kettle is the largest donation ever in the Minneapolis-area.
The annual Christmas kettle drive mostly collects spare change from holiday shoppers outside stores.
On Saturday, a couple dropped in a check for a half million dollars. The couple, who have given to the Salvation Army in the past, wishes to remain anonymous.
A spokesperson for the Minnesota and North Dakota territory says it could be the biggest check they've ever received in the two states.
It comes at just the right time since the territory was about $500,000 behind the same point last year.
