Little Girl, Big Mission: 5,000 Christmas Gifts for Kids
Nine-year-old Jordyn McNeal is on a mission to get as many toys as possible, but none of them are to keep.
"We have 5,161 boxes," said McNeal.
Shoeboxes are filled with toys and toiletries to be shipped to boys and girls in need in more than a hundred countries. It's part of Samaritan's Purse Operation Christmas Child.
"Somewhere around a third of the world's population is under the age of 14 living in some hard situations. Some are dealing with famine, disease, poverty, war, natural disaster," Phil Barks, Samaritan's Purse regional director, said.
"This is an opportunity to provide them with a simple gift to let them know someone cares. Regardless of what happens in your life there's someone that cares," he said.
Little Jordan McNeal has filled shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child before. In 2012 she collected 30,000 items and packed more than a thousand boxes.
This year she wanted to something bigger, so she took to social media and collected 38,000 toys and toiletries.
"It's been really hard but really fun," said McNeal.
This year, Samaritan's Purse expects to collect 8 million gift-filled shoeboxes, 5,000 of those from a nine-year-old girl who just wants to do good.
