'Risen' Tells the Story of Messiah through Unbeliever's Eyes

A new Christian film is offering a fresh perspective on the resurrection of Christ.

In "Risen," a high-ranking Roman soldier and his aide are tasked to ensure that Jesus' radical followers don't steal his body and claim that he rose from from the dead.

When the body goes missing, Clavius, a Roman Centurion, sets out on a mission to locate the body to disprove rumors of a risen Messiah.

English actor Joseph Fiennes, who has starred in blockbusters like "Shakespeare in Love" and "Luther,"  plays the lead role in the film.

In an exclusive interview with CBN News, he shared why he was drawn to the project.

"I love the story of Clavius in terms of the notion of visiting a story that we all know so well, Christian and non-Christian, but through the eyes of a non-believer," he said.

"And I thought that particular lens, through the eyes of a non-believer, a Roman tribune who's there to quell these uprisings where messiahs pop up every week before the emperor of Rome arrives, that he has to bring order along with Pontius Pilate to Judea," Fiennes continued.

"And out of that he falls into the greatest murder mystery of all time and then it really challenges his conditioning," he said.
