The debate over the Confederate flag in South Carolina has prompted a new look at Confederate statues at the U.S. Capitol.

The debate comes as 4,000 people visited South Carolina's Capitol Wednesday to pay their respects to state Sen. Clementa Pinckney.

Pinckney was the pastor of the historic black church, Mother Emanuel AME, in Charleston. He was murdered along with eight other parishioners last week at a Bible study inside the church.

Concerned Women for America is calling for the removal of the confederate flag from South Carolina's capitol. Why is it important to do this? Penny Nance answered this and more, click play to watch.

The Confederate flag flew high outside the South Carolina statehouse, but a large drape kept mourners from seeing it as they filed past the open casket.

Mourner Harriette Dreher appreciated the move to conceal the flag.

"We need not be remembering him with the Confederate flag in the background and I'm glad they respected him enough to block that flag away," Dreher told reporters.

The senator's death has prompted national debate over the historic and divisive symbol.

In Alabama, the governor has removed the flag.
