The United States now has more Spanish speakers than Spain, according to new study by the Cervantes Institute.

That makes America the second largest Spanish-speaking country in the world, second only to Mexico.

The Cervantes Institute said there are 41 million native Spanish speakers in the United States, plus another nearly 12 million who are bilingual.

A report by the U.S. Census Bureau estimates the United States will have 138 million Spanish speakers by 2050. That would make it the biggest Spanish-speaking nation in the world.
