A new report says the government's immigration officers set free another 30,000 illegal immigrants with criminal records last year.

The Washington Times reports that came after the 36,000 released in 2013.

The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency oversees the detention and removal of illegal immigrants.

The agency said it doesn't have much choice on who it can release because illegals who can't return to their home countries cannot be held indefinitely.

The ICE said it's taking steps to cut down on the problem.
