This week marks the 50th anniversary of a classic family movie, "The Sound of Music."

It one of the most successful movies ever and opened the annual TCM Classic Film Festival Thursday night.

Stars Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer came out to celebrate. Plummer said now more than ever, the world needs "The Sound of Music."

"It's from an innocent time, and with the horrific whole world situation right now it's great for parents to take their children to see something as innocent and pure as this," Plummer said. "And that's why each year there's another old phalanx of children coming to see it."

The film won the Oscar for best picture in 1965.
