B.B. King, the man known as the King of Blues, has died at age 89.

His attorney said he passed away in his Las Vegas home Thursday.

King had more than 40 studio albums to his credit, and was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame in 1980 and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1987. He had been touring until late last year.

He was inspired to play guitar as a young boy when he watched his pastor play in church.

"I wanted to be like him. I wanted to be just like him. People used to tell me when I was younger that I played a lot like him," King told PBS in 2013.

The 15-time Grammy winner revealed earlier this month he entered hospice and had been suffering from poor health.

Funeral arrangements are underway.
