Wild weather struck many parts of the country over the weekend, with tornadoes terrifying residents from Iowa to Texas.

In Lake City, Iowa, helpless bystanders watched as a public building was destroyed.

"There goes the school!" one witness exclaimed.

In the small town of Van, Texas, about 70 miles from Dallas, what appears to have been a tornado injured about two dozen people Sunday night, destroying homes and downing trees.

In South Dakota, nine people were injured in one town and a church destroyed Sunday morning while members were gathered for Sunday school.

Parishioner April Will said they were trying to keep calm because of the children.

"[We were] trying to keep it together and not get scared because there were a lot of kids," she said.

Resident Barb Will said, "We huddled in the basement in the bathroom. We huddled down we held onto our knees. We said the Lord's Prayer. And we felt the pressure. You could hear the bricks falling and we knew it wasn't good."

Meanwhile, a spring storm in Colorado dumped as much as 8 inches of snow in and around Denver Sunday. Many tree limbs snapped under the weight of the snow.
