The Muslim teenager who was arrested and suspended for making a clock that school authorities thought was a bomb is now suing the city and school district of Irving, Texas.
Ahmed Mohamed's attorneys say he was publicly mistreated. So they're suing the city of Irving for $10 million, and the Irving Independent School District for another $5 million.
"What has happened to this family is inexcusable," Kelly Hollingsworth, an attorney for Ahmed and his family, said in an email. "The long term effects on Ahmed are incalculable."
The teen took his clock to school in September, and an educator thought it could be a bomb. He was arrested but never charged. He was also suspended from school.
After the incident, the 14-year-old went on a worldwide tour, meeting President Barack Obama at the White House and foreign leaders, including the genocidal Islamic dictator of Sudan.
''They paint us like terrorists. They associate us with some jihadist fundamentalists," Ahmed's uncle, Aldeen Mohamed, said. ''We moved to America for a reason. We moved to America for the freedom. And now our freedom is taken away."
A foundation offered to pay for Ahmed's eduction in Qatar, so the Mohamed family has now moved there to live in a country where most of the citizens follow the strict Wahhabi version of Islam.
