Sen. Roy Blunt, R-Mo., a global champion of religious freedom, has been awarded the National Religious Broadcasters' 2015 Faith & Freedom Award.

Blunt has led the way in challenging Obamacare's mandate requiring employers to include birth control in their healthcare coverage, regardless of their religious convictions.

He's also been an outspoken advocate for persecuted religious minorities, such as Iranian American Pastor Saeed Abedini, who's been imprisoned in Iran for his Christian faith.

"Senator Blunt is a man of faith and conviction, and America is well-served to have him in key leadership posts in the U.S. Senate," NRB President & CEO Dr. Jerry A. Johnson remarked.

"He is an ally to those who seek to uphold life and liberty here in America and throughout the world, and we are privileged to honor him with this year's Faith & Freedom Award," he said.

Past recipients of the award include former Sen. Sam Brownback, R-Kan.; former Rep. Frank Wolf, R-Va.; Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala.; Rep. Greg Walden, R-Ore.;  Alan Sears, president and CEO of Alliance Defending Freedom; Rep. J. Randy Forbes, R-Va.; and Rep. Trent Franks, R-Ariz.
