The House has voted to create a special panel to investigate Planned Parenthood and its efforts to sell the body parts of aborted babies.

That comes after officials from America's largest abortion provider were caught on video making plans to sell baby tissue, and callously joking about what they would do with the cash they earned.

Republicans are trying to determine if the abortion giant is breaking laws or misusing taxpayer money.

"Even if these abortion providers somehow manage to comply with all federal laws while dismembering children, it's clear we need to learn more about their barbaric tactics," said Rep. Virginia Foxx, R-N.C.

Outgoing House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, had suggested establishing a special panel recently to investigate Planned Parenthood.

His idea came as GOP leaders tried staving off conservatives who wanted to cut the abortion giant's federal funding despite President Barack Obama's threats to veto their bill and cause a government shutdown.

That funding fight could be revisited in mid-December, when money keeping government agencies functioning runs out.

About $450 million in taxpayer money is given by the federal government to Planned Parenthood every year.

The House voted last month to halt the federal dollars Planned Parenthood receives, but Democrats blocked similar Senate legislation.

Meanwhile, some House Democrats accuse House Oversight Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, of not cooperating with their requests on the Planned Parenthood investigation.

The Hill reports Democrats say Chaffetz won't share the contents of a hard drive with videos he received from the man behind the undercover videos.

Chaffetz has said he will set up a "viewing room" for Democrats and their staff to see the contents of the hard drive.
