Alabama Church Rebuilds After Devastating Tornado

A town near Birmingham, Alabama, is picking up the pieces after an F-2 tornado struck Tuesday night, leaving at least four people injured.

The storm damaged homes and buildings, including Grace Life Baptist Church.

The congregation was unable to hold their weekly service Wednesday because of extensive damage to the building.

Ceiling tiles were blown out and the church's steeple was ripped off, but the community did not let this storm keep them down.

"That's a real, close-knit church. I mean I know folks that go to this church and they're big on faith, and if you're big on faith then a couple of shingles and your steeple falling off your church ain't gonna' budge you," said Jason Phillips, a volunteer.

In some places the storm was so powerful it moved the walls, but Pastor Joel Frederick told ABC News that they are working to open the doors again.

"Right now we're in the process of having all of that looked at and having it assessed, so we'll know more in the days to come," Frederick said.

The church says they're keeping part of the steeple because it is meant to point to heaven and they won't let the weather sway them from their mission.
