A New York pizza shop owner who admitted to trying to recruit people for the Islamic State will appear in court Thursday for sentencing.

Prosecutors are expected to recommend a 22-and-a-half-year prison term for Mufid Elfgeeh after his attempt to provide support to the terrorist group.

Authorities say Elfgeeh made efforts to recruit three people to join ISIS and fight in Syria. He was operating a convenience store and pizza shop in Rochester at the time.

Elfgeeh, who is a naturalized citizen, pleaded guilty in December.

He was arrested in 2014 and FBI and prosecutors say since his arrest he renounced the Islamic State and its methods.
