New Abortion Pill Label Could Undermine State Regulations

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has relaxed guidelines for an abortion-inducing drug, making it more accessible in some states.
The FDA has approved a new label for the drug Mifeprex, a commonly used abortion-inducing drug.
The new label relaxes the FDA's restrictions on Mifeprex. The new guidelines reduce the dosage from 600 milligrams to 200 milligrams, cuts women's required doctor visits from three to two, and allows women to take the abortion pill later in their pregnancies.
Besides easing restrictions, the new label could also make the drug more accessible in states like Texas, Ohio, North Dakota, Arizona, Arkansas, and Oklahoma.
These states enforce stricter guidelines for the abortion drug's use. However, the FDA's newly eased restrictions could undermine those states' guidelines.
Those who support the new guidelines say it is a victory for women's health. However, many pro-life activists do not agree.
"It appears this has been done for the convenience and the profitability of the abortion industry," Randy O'Bannon, director of education and research for the National Right to Life Committee, told New York Times.
