CBN.com (CBN News) - On Sunday night at the Oscars, Hollywood will pat itself on the back for what the industry believes are the year's best movies.
A huge team is working on last-minute touches to make sure the big night goes off without a hitch.
In the "glorious days of yesteryear," the Oscars were watched by millions of adoring fans, but not so much anymore.
The ratings have consistently tanked in recent years. The Academy is bringing in the Daily Show's Jon Stewart as this year's host to spice things up. But will it be enough?
A lot of the nominated films have not appealed much to mainstream America, and many wonder if people will tune in to watch a show about movies they don't seem to care about.
The gay cowboy film Brokeback Mountain roped eight nominations. And it is not the only gay-themed movie in the running for Oscar gold.
Capote, about the gay author Truman Capote, earned five Oscar nods, and two nominations went to the sex-change picture Trans-America.
Some claim the films are over-praised by Hollywood and under-attended in theaters across the country.
Concerned Women for America’s Janice Crouse said, "This is a sign that the motion picture industry has a death wish, quite frankly, because these kinds of movies don't resonate with mainstream America."
