CBNNews.com TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - New Jersey has become the 12th state to adopt a law limiting protests at funeral services for soldiers killed in combat.
The laws are a response to demonstrations that have been staged around the country by members of a small Kansas church. The Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka contends that U.S. military deaths are God's vengeance for America's tolerance of homosexuality.
The New Jersey law restricts protests within 500 feet of funerals, funeral processions, funeral homes and places of worship.
President Bush recently signed a bill curbing pickets at national cemeteries.
