A New Year's fireworks display in China went terribly wrong, Monday, as it set fire to one of Beijing's most prominent buildings.
An employee of China's Central Television Network set off the fireworks, which charred nearly 80 percent of the $730 million complex.
The neighboring Mandarin Oriental Hotel was completely destroyed.
The hotel wasn't scheduled to open for a few more months, so no guests or employees were inside the building at the time of the fire.
However, one person died and sever others were injured.
It took 600 firefighters to put out the flames. CCTV has since apologized for the accident.
