President Barack Obama's pick for special envoy to the Middle East is being met with skepticism by some in Israel.
Former Sen. George Mitchell was unsuccessful when President Clinton assigned him the role of stopping violence against Israel.
Jewish commentators say Mitchell helped prop up former Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat, and blamed Israel for the violence.
After the recent war in Gaza, the king of Saudi Arabia is now warning Israel that an Arab peace plan may be withdrawn.
"The choice between war and peace will not always stay open," he said.
