Pope Benedict XVI ended his five-day trip to Israel Friday with a visit to Jerusalem's Church of the Holy Sepulchre. 

The church is on the site where many believe Jesus was crucified and resurrected. 

The pontiff put aside his political statements of recent days.

He said the gospel gives hope that god can make all things new and that the violent history of the middle east doesn't have to be repeated.
