President Barack Obama will meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House, Monday night.
U.S.- Israeli relations have been strained since Netanyahu rejected Obama's demand that Israel stop building or expanding Jewish settlements in the West Bank.
Obama has said that ending the settlements would be mandatory for resuming negotiations.
However, a partial freeze on new construction may be the best the administration could hope for.
Netanyahu is in Washington to address the three-day 2009 General Assembly of The Jewish Federations of North America.
