A recent United Nations report reveals that child pornography on the Internet is on the rise and the images of the kids posted online are becoming increasingly more shocking.
Agency France Press reports there are more than 4 million websites featuring minors, including children under the age of two.
"The number of sites devoted to child pornography worldwide is growing. The number of predators connected to the Internet at any one time is estimated to be 750,000," said Najat Maala, Special Rapporteur on the child prostitution and child pornography issue.
Maala warned that the age of sexual consent should not be used as an excuse for peddlers of child porn, noting that such illicit material is sometimes used in areas where the age of consent is lower than what is defined as a minor.
The reason, she explained, is because a "child under 18 cannot be considered to be able to consent to sexual exploitation, including child pornography,"
The child porn industry may possibly generate as much as $20 billion a year.
