Operation Blessing International is working to reach the poorest communities in Peru.

For Christmas, the charity provided more than 14,000 pairs of new shoes to children in the impoverished areas of Huaycan, Iquitos, and Cusco.

One of the recipients was 9-year-old Sandra who said she's grateful for new shoes because she will finally be able to play at school without rocks and sand hurting her feet.

"Thank you very much Operation Blessing. With my new shoes I will be able to compete in the Scholar Olympics, representing my class," Sandra said.

Operation Blessing said many school children in Huaycan and other communities wear shoes that are full of holes and falling apart.

All of Sandra classmates also received new shoes.
